Yorkshire study into dementia and hearing

A Yorkshire hospital has launched a new study looking at a possible link between maintaining hearing using cochlear implants and preventing dementia.

The announcement of the trial, which comes on World Hearing Day, was healed as “potentially life-changing” by a leading medic.

The Wolfson Centre for Applied Healthcare Research

Once established, the Wolfson Centre for Applied Healthcare Research will address three areas that have been identified as key local health priorities, as highlighted on the website of the University of Bradford: 'A new Yorkshire centre will improve the health and well-being of children and the elderly – and the safety of patients in hospitals and clinics.'

The development of the centre is expected to take approximately two years, with work due to begin in summer 2017.

£3m given to help Bradford improve patient safety across NHS

A multi-million pound cash injection has been announced for researchers in Bradford to help improve patient safety across the NHS.

The £3 million announcement by Public Health and Innovation Minister Nicola Blackwood will bring a boost to researchers who are already based at the National Institute for Health Research in the grounds of Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Upcoming Research Event - Achieving an earlier diagnosis of cancer in primary care: is there a role for patients in safety-netting?

The Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group have announced an upcoming, free workshop on 9th February 2017 at Park Plaza Leeds LS1 5NS between 12.30 – 16.15.

Can patients play an active role in safety-netting to achieve an earlier diagnosis of cancer in primary care? This half day workshop, facilitated by the Yorkshire Quality & Safety Research Group, provides a unique opportunity for primary care stakeholders to come together to discuss this. Interactive sessions will enhance understanding of the types of safety-netting strategies which may achieve a more timely follow-up and review of patients after their first visit to their GP practice with possible cancer symptoms.
